Portland, OR January 4, 2010 -- OakTree Digital and the Willamette Week are proud to announce the total collections for the 2009 Give!Guide were $918,094, which is a new record!
The Willamette Week's Give!Guide is in its sixth year as a joint fund raising project focused on providing Portland area nonprofits increased visibility and the tools to reach out to the community for donations at a critical time. In the four consecutive years that OakTree has provided web design, development and marketing support, the Give!Guide has raised approximately $2.5 million dollars to benefit our local nonprofit community.
Given the lagging economy, all early indications were that this year's donation total would be down from the $800,000 netted last year. To exceed last year's record amount was a welcome surprise.
“We continue to be amazed at the generosity of the people of Portland. To raise more money than last year when so many are impacted by our economy says something about the heart and soul of our community,” said OakTree Digital's President, John Schmitt.
The sevety-nine non-profits were organized across the following categories: Community, Environment, Social Action, Arts, Wellness, Education, Youth, and Animals.
OakTree Digital buillt the Give!Guide site using the Sitefinity Community Edition CMS (a .NET-based content management system) and hosted the site at Via West in Hillsboro.
This year's Give!Guide also featured shareable widgets that were developed using the Clearspring platform. Facebook users were able to add these widgets to their pages to encourage their friends to participate. These, and other tactics, encouraged more social media participation, which contributed to this year's record success.
